Cradle to Grave Discipleship
Historic Anglican Catechism in the Contemporary Era

TESM 6pm Tuesday June 10 to 9pm Thursday June 12, 2008

Description: The turbulent changes taking place in today’s global culture, in the church and even in the Anglican communion call for a refocusing and a recapturing of one of the primary tasks of the Church – making disciples of all ages, teaching them to obey all the Lord Jesus Christ has commanded. In response to the challenges of contemporary culture, the Global South Primates have called for the creation of an Anglican Catechism in Outline slated for released in February 2008. This three-day symposium for clergy, academics and Christian ed. practitioners will discuss various aspects related to the historic Anglican Catechism as well as this most recent work. It will provide a foundation to better enable contemporary transmission of historic Christian faith to future generations. The gathering will consist of position papers, seminars, working groups and panel discussions; and will host a variety of Anglican scholars from Nashotah House Seminary, Trinity School for Ministry and elsewhere.

Objectives

  • To relaunch formal discussions between the academy and the church on the Anglican Catechism involving clergy, scholars and practitioners together, in order to avail more effective faith transmission

  • To present the new Anglican Catechism in Outline (ACIO) created under the auspices of the Global South Primates

  • To garner feedback on the ACIO with respect to its potential usability at the parish level

  • To encourage clergy, scholars and Christian educators to work to support and equip families as the primary vehicles of faith formation
