A Simple Bible Lectionary

While teaching the Bible to older grade schoolers I couldn't find a good Bible reading schedule that bridged the gap between a "Children's Bible Story Book" and "Hey Kid, here's the Bible, good luck with that."

This lectionary bridges the gap. It covers 80% of the New Testament and 45% of the old. Redundancies, geneologies and some of the harder parts to get through are left out. What is preserved is the entire Old Testament history as well as key passages from the prophets. Half of the books of the Bible are read in their entirety.

I was surprised when I put this together that most of the folks who use it are the adults in my congregration--it's a great intro for folks who are intimidated and don't know where to start when reading the Bible.

Hey, Michael, great tool. Two minor critiques, though. I find, working with kids, that the best way to help the readings sink in is to only have one lesson per session. That way they remember more of what they read and where they read it. (Of course the biblically literate high schooler should be able to read more than one to compare one passage to another.) Another thing is that liturgy helps with memorization and repetition, so I think I would extend the prayer time (use more of the MP service, though perhaps not all, depending on the group) and only one reading.
Thanks for doing the grunt work on this. Not a task most people think "Gee, I'd really like to sort out passages of Scripture into a lectionary today!" :)
